Children begin their path to reading as babies when they hear and respond to the sound of your voice as parents. Being able to comprehend and communicate through reading and writing begins when they are still very young and can not even understand your spoken words.
Listening, talking, reading, and writing are all parts of early literacy and are all connected. On the road to becoming readers, young children need many opportunities to hear and understand spoken language. This helps them become aware of the different sounds available in forming words. They also need to learn about letters by using the words seen in books and all around them at home and in their community.
Reading to your Young ones everyday increases and improves them and they need reading to help them learn about writing. It is important for families to encourage the love of reading by putting it upon themselves to do everything necessary to help their young ones thereby helping the young reader to put on his or her thinking cap. Either you read to them or you listen as he/she “reads” his/her scribbles, you are building him/her up for the future.
